Rupee up 11 paise in late morning trade

Rupee up 11 paise in late morning trade Surrendering some of its early gains, the rupee on Friday rose by 11 paise to 64.44 against the dollar in the late morning trade on selling of the US currency by banks and exporters amid recovery in the equity markets. Finance Minister P. Chidambaram’s assurance to investors on Thursday and dollar volatility helped in improving the rupee sentiment, forex dealers said. The rupee resumed higher at 64.30 per dollar as against Thursday’s closing level of 64.55 at the Interbank Foreign Exchange (Forex) Market. It hovered in a range of 64.28 and 64.70 per dollar before quoting 64.44 at 10.40 hours (IST). In New York market, the US dollar traded high er against its rival currencies on Thursday despite a series of mixed economic data. Lenovo takes missing Windows 8 Start menu into its own hands. Microsoft's Windows 8.1 is due out Oct. 17, but Chinese OEM Lenovo is apparently sick of waiting for the Windows 8 update to bring back the traditional Windows Start menu. The company decided to take matters into its own hands, and the maker of Start menu software Pokki announced this week that future Lenovo PCs will have its custom Start menu pre-installed. Pokki, made last year by a start-up called Sweetlabs, adds a Start menu to Windows 8 that's similar to what was found inWindows 7 and earlier OS versions. Bloomberg reported that three million Windows 8 users have already downloaded the Pokki software independently from Sweetlabs' website. The benefits of Pokki Windows 8.1 brings back the Start menu in part, but it's still not a full traditional desktop experience. Nokia Bandit: a 6-inch giant Windows Phone coming soon Nokia is planning a big-screen Windows Phone for release later this year. Sources familiar with Nokia's plans have revealed to  The Verge  that the company is currently testing a 6-inch device with the latest version of Windows Phone. Codenamed "Bandit," the handset includes a 1080p display and a Qualcomm Snapdragon quad-core processor. We understand that Bandit will be the first of many planned 1080p Windows Phone devices. Rupee continues free fall; plunges to 65.56 against dollar The Indian rupee on Thursday slipped below the psychological level of 65 against a dollar, hitting new lows for the fifth straight session, after the US Federal Reserve hinted it would start scaling back of stimulus as early as next month. The partially-convertible rupee slumped by 2.2 percent to hit a new record low of 65.56 against a dollar at the inter-bank foreign exchange market here, surpassing its previous record low of 64.54. This is the sixth straight session of weakness in the value of Indian currency. The rupee has touched new lows for the fifth session in row. The rupee had declined 86 paise to close at 64.11 against a dollar Wednesday. A recent survey by the reputed telecom magazine Voice & Data has revealed that South Korean technology giant Samsung has replaced Finnish handset maker Nokia as the largest mobile maker in India. The survey says Samsung Electronics acquired 31.5 percent market share and Nokia got 27.2 percent during in the last fiscal year. Samrtphone consumption in India has risen considerably in recent times and Samsung has clearly taken lead over its competitors in the Indian market. Sensex down another 340 points as rupee tumbles to record low MUMBAI: After an initial rally, the benchmark S&P BSE sensex crashed another 340 points on Wednesday to the lowest closing level in more than 11 months as the rupee continued its free fall to an all-time low.   The rupee continued its downslide for the fifth trading day in a row, dropping to 64.52 against the dollar in afternoon deals, amid fresh measures announced by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on Tuesday to increase the availability of cash in the banking system.  The 30-share sensex opened at 18,545.44 and rallied more than 300 points from Tuesday's close to a high of 18,567.70 before declining to a low of 17,807.19. The list is 23 games deep and includes major first- and third-party games. Microsoft, Ubisoft, Activision, and Electronic Arts all have multiple games hitting alongside the system. Interestingly, Ubisoft’s open-world hacking game Watch Dogs is included in the launch-day list, but it isn’t due out until Nov. 19. This would seem to suggest that Xbox One won’t hit the market until at least that day, but it’s also possible that this list is only tentative and could change.
